What is the Honda Lane Keeping Assist System?

Part of the Honda Sensing® safety suite, the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) alerts drivers when their vehicle begins to drift from its lane. Whether you are cruising Asheville streets or out on the 405, LKAS can help to provide an extra level of peace-of-mind. Learn more about how Lane Keeping Assist works in new Honda vehicles in this guide from Apple Tree Honda.

How Does Lane Keep Assist Work?

Lane Keeping Assist features a sensor camera that is mounted behind the rearview mirror. This camera scans road markings and will send visual and tactile alerts to notify you if your vehicle starts to drift from its lane if you haven’t activated the turn signal. When the system detects that the vehicle has started to drift, it will relay a warning which will appear on the multi-information display, and the steering wheel will vibrate to alert you. The Lane Keeping Assist System can also provide corrective steering to help keep your vehicle in its lane.

Can I Turn Lane Keep Assist Off?

Yes, the Lane Keeping Assist System can be deactivated at any time. Here’s how:

  • Press the MAIN button on the steering wheel until you see LKAS on the multi-information display.
  • Press LKAS.
  • You’ll see lane outlines on the display (dotted lines turn solid when the system is ready).
  • Press the MAIN or LKAS button to turn off the system.
